Airbnb strengthens measures against unwanted parties during New Year’s Eve
In one year, 5,700 people were blocked from making bookings on the platform in Canada. Property management teams are also doing their part in security.
27/12/2024 - Airbnb has announced new measures to prevent unwanted parties in properties during New Year’s Eve. The platform uses advanced technology to identify high-risk bookings and reduce unauthorized events that could disturb hosts and neighbours.
The measures include:
- Blocking 1- to 3-night bookings for guests with limited booking history or who live close to the property.
- Requiring guests to confirm they won’t host parties, under penalty of suspension or removal from the platform.
- Using artificial intelligence to monitor risk factors such as trip length, guest distance from the property, and proximity of the booking date.
Since 2020, these measures have reduced reported New Year’s Eve parties by over 60% in regions where they’ve been implemented. Last year alone, more than 5,700 high-risk bookings were blocked in Canada, according to Airbnb.

In addition, property management teams are taking practical steps to ensure a smooth experience: maintaining clear rules on property listings, getting to know guests better through questions before their stay, and building good communication with neighbours. Airbnb also allows hosts to cancel bookings if they have evidence that guests plan to host parties.
